Upgrade to TYPO3 6.2

In this video tutorial we show you how to upgrade to TYPO3 CMS 6.2 LTS using the example of a website created with version 4.5.

This upgrade is more complex than with earlier versions. In the videos, however, we show step by step how to proceed and what you need to pay attention to.

However, since every TYPO3 installation is different from others, for example in terms of the extensions used or the TypoScript, it is not possible to create a guide that is 100% suitable for all websites. However, the example of this website shows most of the problems that can occur when upgrading to version 6.2.

Here you can find more information on upgrading to version 6.2

Part 1 - Introduction

In part 1 you will get some general information and also learn why the upgrade to 6.2 can be much more complex than with earlier versions.

Note: a direct upgrade to TYPO3 6.2 is only possible from TYPO3 4.5. If you are still using an older TYPO3 version (4.4, 4.3, 4.2 etc.), you must first upgrade to 4.5 in a second step!

Part 2 - Check and update extensions

Before the upgrade, the extensions used should be checked and updated if possible.

Part 3 - Check Typoscript

The Typoscript used must be checked before the upgrade. For example, the content objects PHP_SCRIPT and HTML no longer exist in TYPO3 6.2.

Part 4 - Updating the reference index

To ensure that all file assignments in the content elements are correctly adopted during the upgrade to TYPO3 6.2, it is advisable to check and update the reference index before the upgrade.

Part 5 - Running the Upgrade Wizard

In this step, the upgrade wizard in the install tool is used to carry out the upgrade itself. There are a few important points to note here, and adjustments may also need to be made to the PHP settings of the domain.

Part 6 - Check backend/frontend, rectify errors

Once the upgrade wizard has been performed, it is now time to check the backend and frontend and correct any errors.

Note:
If the extension manager is unable to download an extension list after the upgrade, you may need to activate the [SYS][curlUse] parameter in the All Configuration area of the install tool by setting the checkbox!
