YAG - Yet Another Gallery

Extension Key: yag

Please note

The development of YAG has unfortunately been discontinued in the meantime. Therefore, the extension can no longer be used in TYPO3 8 or newer.

We are not currently aware of a direct alternative with a similar range of functions. For a simple image gallery, however, the extension gridgallery might be of interest, which we have also taken a closer look at.

Introduction

Image galleries are a frequently requested feature of websites. There are also some extensions for TYPO3 to create galleries. However, most of them do not offer many functions or are outdated and are no longer actively developed. This is why the use of Yet Another Gallery (YAG) is recommended. This extension is not only being actively developed, it also offers features that should satisfy both amateur and professional photographers. In addition, the appearance of the gallery can be configured almost at will. Numerous so-called themes are also already available in the extension repository.

The videos show you how to install and configure YAG. We also show you how to create galleries and albums and display them in the frontend. You will also see how you can change the output of YAG by installing additional themes.

Installation

YAG requires two extensions, which must be installed first:

  • First install the extension pt_extbase,
  • then the extension pt_extlist.

Now you can install yag. You must then integrate the static template from YAG into your root template. Then create a folder (Sysfolder), which is required to create galleries and albums. In the page properties of this folder, set "Use as container" ' "Contains extension" to YAG.

You can also see the exact installation process in the following video.

Create galleries and albums

You can already create galleries and albums via the YAG backend module and add images to these albums. There are several options for adding images:

  • Import images that already exist in the file system, e.g. from a folder below fileadmin
  • Upload a ZIP archive with images, YAG unpacks this archive automatically
  • a multifile upload, similar to the file list module
  • an HTML5 upload via drag'n drop directly into the browser

After you have added images, you can edit the titles of the images, assign keywords (tags), change the order of the images and more.

You can see the exact process in this video.

The output in the frontend

After you have created galleries and albums and integrated images into the albums, you still need to ensure that the albums are also displayed in the frontend.

To do this, you can integrate YAG as a normal content element.

YAG offers various views:

  • A gallery list: all existing galleries are displayed here.
  • An album list: here you can see all existing albums.
  • A specific album: here you can see thumbnails of a selected album.
  • The single image view: a specific image is displayed here.
  • A random image: here you can display a random image from all albums or from a specific album.

The following video shows you how to integrate and configure the YAG plugin.

Install more themes

The output of YAG can be changed in many ways using so-called themes. There are already several extensions for YAG in the extension repository that provide additional themes. For example, there is the extension "YAG Themepack jQuery", which includes some jQuery plugins for displaying images.

You can see an example of this extension in this video.

Gallery maintenance

In the YAG backend module, you will also find the "Gallery maintenance" section. Here you will find statistics about the YAG installation. You can also clear the resolution cache and have it recreated. You can see what this is and how it works in the following video.

Display problems in the frontend

Under certain circumstances, the images may suddenly no longer be visible in the frontend. This can be the case after a server change/domain move, for example.

In this case, it is usually sufficient to rebuild the resolution cache via the YAG backend module.
