Review of 2018

In the quiet days between Christmas and New Year, it's a good time to review the year. Here's a look back at events big and small, personal impressions and a look ahead to 2019.

Fun in the snow in Canazei

Something very special in the TYPO3 community: once a year we go on a snowboard tour (T3BOARD18). Anyone with an interest in TYPO3 can take part. For a whole week, we hit the slopes during the day and maybe go to the sauna after apres-ski. After dinner, we meet up for talks, discussions, coding sessions or to solve special challenges together with our favorite CMS.

This year we went to the Fassa Valley, Trentino in Italy to Canazei. With around 40 participants, we had a great time at the Hotel Césa Tyrol comfortably. The weather was kind to us, there was plenty of snow and lots of sunshine. The atmosphere was great and we learned a lot from the presentations. Next year the snowboard tour will go to Austria to the Stubaitalwhere we will be there with six people. There are also initial plans for 2020 - the destination could be a few hours' flight further west again...

Berlin is always worth a visit

We flew to the capital six times this year - for training courses, events and customer visits. We started in March with Contentixx and SEOcampixx at Müggelsee. Every year, professionals from the online marketing and SEO scene meet here. Many sessions focus on the optimization of websites and their content.

Two months later at the re:publica in the Berlin station. For three days, up to 20 parallel presentations will focus on digital issues, online politics and culture.

"New reality" by online marketing professional Karl Kratz was a seminar with a difference. Several hundred participants listened to the lectures and performances by Jan Becker, Prof. Dr. Klemens Skibicki ('Profski'), Prof. Dr. Gunter Dueck and Karl Kratz. A unique event in the truest sense of the word - if you missed it, you were out of luck.

Shortly afterwards, a TYPO3camp took place in Berlin. These barcamp-style events bring together 100-200 people who are interested in TYPO3. It usually starts on Friday evening with the participants getting to know each other, followed on Saturday and Sunday by presentations (not only) on the topic of TYPO3. The TYPO3camps also take place in many other cities; this year we were a sponsor in Berlin, Lucerne, Stuttgart and Essen. Unfortunately, we were unable to attend the events in Venlo, Hamburg, Munich and Dresden due to scheduling constraints. At most of the events, you also have the opportunity to take the TYPO3 certification exam in various categories.

In October, we traveled to Berlin three more times: first for a customer meeting at the World Health Summit (also at the Kosmos). Then Karl Kratz gathered the customers of his KarlsCore program for an exciting online marketing seminar. Finally, the music hotel nhow was the venue for the International TYPO3 Conference with several hundred participants from many countries. One of the highlights was the festive gala for the presentation of the TYPO3 Awardsat the Admiralspalast. The awards were presented for the best websites in 15 different categories. We were nominated for the Health category, but the prize went to Lousanne University Hospital. As a surprise, there was also a special category "Community Engagement". Olivier Dobberkau, President of the TYPO3 Association, called me on stage and presented me with the award - what a moving moment!

Ok, those were the good things about Berlin this year. Less nice was that my wallet was stolen from my jacket pocket when I got off the bus at the S-Bahn station. As I quickly noticed this, I chased down the perpetrators, caught them and got my wallet back. A stroke of luck. Lesson learned: be much more careful in crowds!

TYPO3 Version 9.5

Nothing is so good that it can't be made even better - this also applies to the TYPO3 CMS! After 18 months of 'pregnancy', version 9.5 saw the light of day at the beginning of October. Many improvements have been implemented: Functions for SEO have been firmly integrated, a new handling for speaking URLs, easier working for editors and a revised intallastions tool are just a few new features.

Just in time for the end of the year, we have released our matching sample template a ready-made template for your own websites that can be created with the help of our instructions can be customized almost at will.

Team Events

What I'm really proud of: our great team! Together with Erik, who joined us in August, it has now grown to 15 people. And in the last 16 years, no one has resigned. This is particularly good for our wealth of experience.

Wolfgang and Stefan work from home, but once a month we all get together for a few days. This is always a good opportunity to get together. Whether it's a barbecue, games evening, raft trip, mini golf or Christmas dinner, we always have a lot of fun together!

Outlook 2019

At the end of the year, you always think about what the next year will bring. It is already clear that it will be another exciting year. Within the company, we will continue to develop our products, further optimize our service and continue to train our employees. We will be supporting many TYPO3 events as a sponsor and as a participant. Already in January we will start with the TYPO3camp Central Germany in Dresden.

For Christmas, my employees made a dream come true for me, which I can realize in June 2019 - look forward to the pictures! Then my daughter's wedding, a trip to Norway in the summer, golfing in Göppingen and so much more: it's going to be an exciting year!
