TYPO3 Newsletter - NOVEMBER 2020
|
|
Welcome to the new issue of the TYPO3 Newsletter. Here you will find news and interesting facts from the TYPO3 universe.
TYPO3 11 in sight, security releases for TYPO3 9 and 10 and lots of tips about TYPO3... a lot has happened around our favorite CMS in November. And in December there will be some TYPO3 events again. Online only, of course. And as unfortunate as it is that the TYPO3 community still can't meet in person, the remote meetings once again offer the opportunity to take part in meetings that you wouldn't otherwise attend due to the distance.
But we can have hope for the coming year. Several promising vaccines are on the horizon, and perhaps sometime in 2021 this unspeakable pandemic will only be a slowly fading memory...
We wish you and your families and friends a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Stay healthy!
Wolfgang Wagner and the entire jweiland.net team!

The first remote accessibility sprint took place from 21st to 23rd of October 2020 and it was successful indeed. During these three productive days we focused on knowledge sharing, addressing open issues, and creating a practical checklist for developers. An accessible TYPO3 improves the experience of every user of TYPO3.

The TYPO3 Extension Repository now includes the status of translations for extensions drawn from Crowdin. This is an exciting development because TYPO3 is an international community. Previously, it was difficult to find out the status of translation for particular extensions, and now it is publicly available for all users to see.

The CKEditor is a very comprehensive and above all very customizable WYSIWYG editor (What you see is what you get). As one of the most popular editors, also in other CMS, we are happy to have this editor on board since TYPO3 8.5.0. This means that the existing system extension rtehtmlarea is now obsolete.

Who hasn't experienced this: We want to have a "/go/shop" redirect. But now the source is multilingual. Even if you make a "/go/shop-en" and "/go/shop-de", it is difficult to link to a language via the page link wizard in the backend. Reason enough to solve this in a cool way...

TYPO3 v10 deprecated and TYPO3 v11 removed all fluid widget code. The most used widget was probably the pagination widget. Since TYPO3 10.2 a new pagination API has been integrated into the TYPO3 core - let's take a look at how it can be used.

This blog post is about resources for TYPO3 beginners - in TYPO3 terminology you want to learn the "TYPO3 Editor" skills. If you are looking for German resources, you want to look for "Redakteur". When you are already more familiar with the content management system, you can look out for "integrator" related skills. Thank you to Olivier Dobberkau (TYPO3 President), Jochen Weiland (jweiland.net) and Daniel Siepmann (TYPO3 Documentation Team) for giving inputs for the blog post!

The TYPO3 ViewHelper are a powerful tool. The Fluid-ViewHelper f:image brings numerous functionalities to output images. But unfortunately it does not know any GIFBUILDER effects. We can change that.
