Although there are still 15 months to go until the release of the next TYPO3 version 12, the developers have now published the requirements that the new version needs. Users and hosters can already prepare themselves now. PHP version 8.1 or 8.2 is required, and at least MySQL 8.0, MariaDB 10.3, PostgreSQL 10.0 or SQLite 3.8.3 are needed for the databases. Microsoft SQL Server is not supported.

Two maintenance releases for TYPO3 were published on January 11. The versions 11.5.5 and 10.4.23 contain bug fixes. It is not necessary to update the database when using the new versions.

The Gridelements extension is very powerful for realizing multi-column content in TYPO3. For many applications, however, the range of functions is not required. An alternative is the Container extension, which can also be used to create multi-column content for the editor. Container is already available for TYPO3 version 11.5. In an article, Websailor (Christoph Schwob) describes how to migrate a website from Gridelements to the use of Container.
