New TYPO3 versions are currently released approximately every 18 months. The current versions 13.4 and 12.4 offer technical support as LTS (Long Term Support) for three years in each case. An extension of the support (Extended Long Term Support, ELTS) for the 4th to 7th year is possible. This means that a TYPO3 version can be used for up to 7 years without relaunching the website.
Which version to use?
The current TYPO3 version 13.4 LTS was released on October 15, 2024. Support and updates are available until the end of December 2027, with the ELTS service until December 2031.
The TYPO3 version 14 is currently under development and is expected to be released in April 2026.
Version 13.4.22 is the current, stable version. Anyone creating a new project should use this version.
Regular support for version 11.5 ended on October 31, 2024. Extended support with updates can now be booked until October 2028.
Regular support for version 10.4 expired at the end of April 2023. Updates and support are available via the ELTS service until April 2027.
Version 9.5 has been extended until the end of September 2021 (with ELTS Service there are still updates and support until the end of September 2025).
Support has expired for versions 8.7, 7.6, 6.2 and earlier. There are no further updates for these versions. It is recommended to upgrade to version 13.4 or 12.4.
The support of a TYPO3 version for up to seven years protects the investment in your website. As a rule, a simple update of the TYPO3 source code is sufficient. We usually carry this out automatically for projects hosted by us. Customers are informed by e-mail before an update is installed.
Existing projects: Which TYPO3 version is used?
After logging into the TYPO3 backend as an editor or administrator, the currently used TYPO3 version can be displayed as follows:
For TYPO3 version 8.7 and higher, the version number is at the top left
For TYPO3 version 7.6 and higher: Click on the symbol with the question mark in the header (to the left of the user name) and call up the menu item "About TYPO3".
For version 6.2 and lower: click on About Modules in the menu on the left.
Order upgrade
In many cases, it is possibleto upgrade the TYPO3 version without any problems. Depending on the previous version and the extensions used, however, individual adjustments may need to be made.
For customers who do not wish to carry out the upgrade themselves, we offer the upgrade as a service. We are happy to carry out a standardized check of the website to determine the effort required for an upgrade.
TYPO3 system requirements: which PHP and database versions are required?
Every TYPO3 version requires a matching PHP and MySQL version. Especially with older projects, it is sometimes difficult to find the right information. Here we have summarized the versions in an overview.
Good to know: in our hosting packages we continue to offer older, no longer officially supported PHP versions at no extra charge. These will also continue to receive security updates from us.
