The instructions refer to older TYPO3 versions where the extension "css_styled_content" is still in use.

With the following Typoscript snippet, captions in content elements are rendered as a link if the link field is filled in the metadata of an image.

tt_content.image.20.caption.1.stdWrap.typolink < tt_content.image.20.1.imageLinkWrap.typolink

Tested in TYPO3 CMS 6.2 and 7.1

Note: the code only works when using css_styled_content.
