While new TYPO3 main versions are usually supported for 18 months, version 4.5 was the first LTS (Long Term Support) version with support for 36 months. LTS versions are very popular with users, as an update is only required every 3 years. Due to delays in the subsequent LTS version 6.2, support for the version was initially extended until the end of March 2015.
Support for version 4.5 expired on March 31, 2015
After 50 months of support for version 4.5, regular support finally expired on March 31, 2015. In addition to the LTS successor version 6.2, version 7.6 is now also available as an LTS version. This new version offers numerous improvements, new functions and better performance. However, some TYPO3 extensions are not yet compatible with version 6.2 or 7.6. It is therefore not (yet) possible to upgrade to these versions in all cases.
Extended LTS Support for TYPO3 4.5
As there are always a few websites using version 4.5, an "Extended LTS" program has now been created. Click here for the corresponding news item on typo3.org.
With the Extended Support the TYPO3 development team provides security updates for another year. Updates will also be provided if it is no longer possible to edit content with new browser versions (e.g. if the editor no longer loads).
However, extended support for TYPO3 4.5 is subject to a charge. The costs for access to the Extended LTS are 2,000 Euro (one TYPO3 project), 8,000 Euro (5 projects) or 15,000 Euro (unlimited projects).
