TYPO3camp Stuttgart 2018
For the 8th and last time the TYPO3camp Stuttgart took place from April 27th to 29th at the University of Hohenheim. We were there again as premium sponsor and co-organizer as well as the entire team.
Although the sessions didn't start until Saturday, many participants were already welcomed on Friday evening at the traditional warm-up party in the university's castle. Over pizza and drinks, it was great to see each other again and meet new people.
Saturday started with the organizing team welcoming the participants. The announcement that this year's camp would be held for the last time at the university castle shocked and saddened many.
We regret this very much, as this location was truly unique and gave the camp a very special atmosphere.
But don't worry, the TYPO3camp Stuttgart will stay with us, we already have potential new locations in mind and will report news here on our website, via our social media channels on Facebook and Twitter as well as on the camp's website in good time.
For the first time this year, a live stream was held via YouTube. The talks could be followed live on YouTube from two session rooms. There was even feedback from a live viewer from Namibia. The recordings can also be watched afterwards.
Saturday, jweiland.net room
Sunday, jweiland.net room
Saturday, Schommer Media room
Sunday, Schommer Media room
Many thanks to Oliver Thiele and TYPO3 GmbH (Stefan Schreiber) for the streams.
Our WLAN supplied the participants quickly and stably with a total of 9 access points. A total of 202 GB of data was transmitted wirelessly. There were separate lines for the video streams.
As every year, some sessions consisted of prepared talks, but many responded to the wishes of the participants and were spontaneous. Here is a selection of the sessions in which we participated or which were held by us ( you can find the complete session plan here). The slides for the talks will also be available there shortly.
Frontend Testing
This session was about automated visual comparisons of websites. Node.js and Chrome headless were used in the example.
This makes it possible to react to unwanted changes after a deployment, for example.
DDEV
DDEV is a tool for quickly setting up a local development environment. TYPO3 has also recently been supported directly. DDEV is based on Docker.

TYPO3 9 - new features
In this session you could get an overview of the new features of the upcoming LTS version. There is a lot going on!
TYPO3 9 - Future Core
Benni Mack and Matthias Schreiber once again went into the new features of TYPO3 9 and asked for help and contribution of new ideas.
Frontend Editing
Mathias Bolt Lesniak presented the new frontend editing (frontend_editing). The development was financed in a crowdfunding project and is now available in the TER. It can be downloaded and tested with version 8LTS. From version 9 it will be supplied with the core.
Cart Extension
Cart makes it relatively easy to implement small to medium-sized online stores. In this session, the current development status of the upcoming version 5 was presented and an outlook on planned features was given.
QFQ Extension
In this session, the extension QFQ - Quick Form Query, which is used intensively at the ETH in Zurich, was presented. With this extension, HTML form pages can be created and filled or selected with individual SQL command databases. The forms are suitable for mobile devices because they are based on Bootstrap. For example, PDF files can also be uploaded and compiled on the fly into a complete PDF. Several databases can be addressed.
Extension-Talk
"Show me your cool extension" was the motto of this talk. 6 interesting extensions were shown here in several "mini-sessions". Thanks to Nicole Cordes for creating the list and coordinating.
Information about the extension we showed Extension for the automatic generation of a privacy policy for the DSGVO
TYPO3 for beginners
In two sessions, Wolfgang showed how you can actually get from an empty TYPO3 installation to a functioning website relatively quickly. It was a crash course, so to speak, on the topics of sitepackages, TypoScript and Fluidtemplates.
DSGVO
This session was moderated by Matthias Krappitz and Andrea Herzog Kienast. In the current topic of GDPR, there was a lively discussion about the innovations of the General Data Protection Regulation. Where does personal data occur in TYPO3, who is affected by an AV, how can the risk of a lawsuit be minimized, what should TYPO3 agencies pay attention to? This exchange could certainly have gone on for another hour.
Talks about the work of the TYPO3 Community and Association
Those who wanted to find out how TYPO3 is organized and how they can participate in its further development were able to find out in several sessions. For example, the Design Team, which was present with 4 members (Fabian Stein, Michel Loew, Frank Schubert, Riona Kuthe), presented its work and is looking forward to welcoming more members. Petra Hasenau (TYPO3 Board member) answered questions about the association.
SCRUM Q+A
Rüdiger Marwein and Michel Loew work in Scrum teams and explained Scrum very clearly and showed the general and internal team processes.
Marc Willmann found the whiteboard when he was preparing the TYPO3 certification and had to remove it very quickly before the candidates could copy it.
Certifications
As part of the camp, participants were also able to take a certification exam. Twenty took the opportunity to get certified as TYPO3 Developer, Integrator or Consultant. Riona was also there. We congratulate her on passing the TYPO3 Consultant exam.
Sunday afternoon the camp was already over. As always, much too early.
We would like to thank everyone involved once again:
- to the University of Hohenheim for its many years of support
- the entire organization team
- to all the sponsors, without whom such a camp would not be possible
- to all the speakers who shared their knowledge with the community
- to the weather gods, who once again ensured a sunny camp
- and last, but not least: to all participants who have always made the TYPO3camp Stuttgart something very special!
Bye bye Hohenheim, see you next year in Stuttgart!
