TYPO3camp Stuttgart 2012 - Review

From April 27 to 29, the 2nd TYPO3camp Stuttgart took place in the castle of the University of Hohenheim. In summer temperatures of around 30 degrees, 200 participants met for lectures, workshops and discussions. TYPO3camps are 'un-conferences' in the style of a BarCamp.

Many had already arrived on Friday evening for the warm-up party. Things really got going on Saturday morning after registration with breakfast and session planning. Each participant had the opportunity to offer or request a presentation or workshop. The sessions were allocated to the 5 lecture rooms according to demand. In contrast to traditional conferences, the program was created spontaneously, with planning for the second day following on Sunday.

The topics were very varied and there was something for everyone. For example, it was about social media, Google Analytics, positioning "agency vs. freelancer", Kanban, responsive web design, Extbase, TYPO3 Phoenix and much more.

The quality of the presentations and the good preparation of the speakers was impressive. On Saturday afternoon, the Certified TYPO3 Integrator exam could be taken.

At the social event in the evening there was music, cocktails and a delicious Swabian buffet. When the lights were switched off after midnight, some participants set off to explore Stuttgart's nightlife. Little was known about the research results...

On Sunday morning, participants were able to fortify themselves with an extensive breakfast including muesli, scrambled eggs, croissants, bread rolls and white sausage. Thus fortified, the sessions for the day were planned.

At the end of the afternoon, all speakers were able to choose books provided by the sponsors O'Reilly, Galileo, Open Source Press and Franzis.

As in the previous year, Esskultur from Stuttgart provided excellent catering. As last year, the camp was organized by the University of Hohenheim and the TYPO3 agencies Lighwerk, Schommer Media, Spooner Web and jweiland.net
